Color Your World

By Rieva Lesonsky

Finally fall has finally arrived in much of the country—though we Southern Californians are pretty much sweltering (not bragging—I’m ready for fall too). But in the wonderful world of color (hat tip: Disney) it’s never about today, but about at least six months from now.

In other words, while the stores are showing all those shades of Marsala (Pantone’s 2015  “color of the year” right now (I just bought a new wallet in that shade), fashion designers and others are already looking ahead to 2016, and the Pantone Color Institute recently released its fashion colors for Spring 2016.

First understand that just because it says fashion doesn’t mean this is all about clothing and accessories. “Hot” colors quickly move into all aspects of our lives, from home décor to cars to the colors we should paint our stores and offices.

The new colors are a lot different than what we’ve seen recently. Instead of the dark and dusky shades of 2015, Pantone says these colors “transport us to a happier, sunnier place” and notes the new palette is “calming and tranquil.” At the same time, there’s definitely an influence from places like Cuba of “courageous color statements.”

Essentially the colors (which apply to both men and women’s fashions) include “vivid brights” like Green Flash, Buttercup and Fiesta and the “calming colors of nature,” such as Rose Quartz, Peach Echo, Serenity, Snorkel Blue, Limpet Shell, Lilac Gray and Iced Coffee. (I’m already dreaming of buying a Limpet Shell wallet for spring.)
