Color Crazy

April 16, 2014: Color Crazy

Have we gone color crazy? Pantone seems to think so. On the heels of introducing Radiant Orchid as the 2014 Color of the Year, the global color authority unveiled its Pantone Fashion Color Report for next fall as well as Engage, the fall/winter 2015/2016 edition of the Pantone View Colour Planner, which is based on the 2015 Pantone Fashion + Home Color System.

The Colour Planner “offers seasonal inspiration, key color direction and suggested color harmonies for women’s and men’s fashion, active wear, cosmetics and lifestyle, as well as industrial and graphic design.”

Pantone says consumers are seeking more color choices due to a combination of “global fashion trends becoming less constrained by rigid color rules” and a more optimistic future outlook. The Planner features “classic and familiar tones combining with some less traditional tones…to allow businesses to playfully engage with color without [undertaking] financial risk.”

Fall 2014 will be a “season of untypical colors” with hues that reflect “imagination and ingenuity,” Pantone says.

Consumers have traditionally retreated from color during the colder winter months, but Pantone says, “in our globally connected world, this is no longer the case.” Translation: It’s always summer somewhere.
