2014 Color of the Year

December 11, 2013: 2014 Color of the Year

Color is vitally important to most small businesses. It can affect your mood and that of your employees and customers. Color can get you excited or calm you down. It’s also trendy. You may have your favorite colors, but if your business is one that tries to reflect cutting-edge trends, you need to keep up with color trends.

Pantone, a global color authority, has just announced the 2014 color of the year-“Radiant Orchid.” They label the color “a captivating, magical, enigmatic purple.”

Radiant Orchid should have particular appeal to entrepreneurs. According to Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, the color is “an invitation to innovation. Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, and intrigues the eye and sparks the imagination.” (This, compared to last year’s color, Emerald, which “served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity.”)

Pantone breaks down what the color means to specific industries. Radiant Orchid has already infiltrated the fashion world and will be incorporated into 2014’s clothing and accessories collections. If you’re in the beauty business, look for lipsticks, blush, eye colors and nail polish in the shade.

If you want to incorporate the color into your store or office, there will soon be tons of décor and accessories available. Pantone Radiant Orchid paint is available exclusively at Lowe’s.
