My closet is a mess, how about yours? I have clothes in there I haven’t worn in a long time, but I hold onto just in case I lose those ten pounds I’ve been wanting to lose. (Then I’ll wear those skinny jeans!) Also, I have my “painting shoes.” Everyone’s got a pair of old shoes just in case you need to paint and don’t want to ruin your nice shoes. Right?

So what’s in your closet? Do you have any someday-I-might-need-these items? What about in your business “closet”? Are you still holding on to some old ways of doing things, just in case? Or are you procrastinating in some areas that need attention? Here are some examples. See if they apply to you:

Technology. You haven’t updated your software and hardware in a long time because you don’t want to deal with a learning curve of a new program. I shouldn’t have to tell you you’re hurting the business by not embracing new technologies. Plus, what is that saying to your customer if your technology is outdated?

Projects. Have you been talking about redesigning your website but still haven’t got around to it? Or maybe you’ve been meaning to back up your crucial business data, but haven’t found the time. Like trying to fit in my skinny jeans, nothing is going to happen if you don’t take the initiative and do it now. Start crossing off some of that “To Do” list.

New Ideas. Like all entrepreneurs you have a lot of great ideas for new products or services. When is going to perfect time to act on your ideas? The phrase “There’s no time like the present” couldn’t be any truer. You don’t want to look back and think “What if.” Do yourself a favor and look in your entrepreneurial closet and give it a good cleaning. What can you really do to make some of things happen and which should you throw away?
