Are you a woman small business owner hoping to land a government contract? A free online webinar coming up tomorrow can help.

There are several steps a small business owner must take in order to do business with the federal government:  evaluate the government market, identify a target audience, and develop a selling strategy.  In order to sell products or services to the government, Federal Acquisitions Regulations (FAR) requires all prospective vendors to be registered with the System for Award Management (SAM) prior to the award of a contract or agreement.

SAM was launched in July 2012 to help streamline procurement processes by combining and replacing several federal contracting registration systems, including CCR, FedReg, ORCA and EPLS. SAM allows contractors to register, file their reps and certifications and search for contracting opportunities from a single location and allows government agencies to find businesses based on specific qualities like size and location.

To help both beginners and experienced contractors understand how to navigate the many features of SAM, the Give Me 5 program will be hosting a free webinar that will walk small business owners through basic steps needed to update and manage their profiles, access data and search records within the system. The Give Me 5 program was created by American Express OPEN and Women Impacting Public Policy to help women business owners get a leg up on selling to the world’s largest customer: the U.S. government.
