At National Small Business Week in Washington, DC, in May, remote working and taking your business virtual were hot topics of discussion. Since most small-business owners work from home at least part of the time, I thought I’d share a couple of tools that came up at the conference.

Cbeyond is a communications company that just teamed up with Mozy to create Secure Backup, an online data storage and backup service based in the cloud. Steve Zimba at Cbeyond says the company aims to bring small businesses the same technology that big business enjoy, at affordable prices. The company also offers online marketing, website creation and hosting, SEO and more.

Intuit is now offering small businesses much more than payroll and accounting. The company has launched a new service offering that aims to grow small businesses by a consistent 20 percent per year. The products include website hosting and creation programs, email marketing, SEO and SEM, reputation management tools and more.

These days every business can benefit from online marketing and data storage tools—especially when they’re created just for small companies.
