The annual Amazon Web Services Startup Challenge is up and running. The contest, which is open until October 2, offers cash prizes and credits to the winning startup businesses.

Five semifinalists each from three regions–the Americas, Asia-Pacific, and Europe, the Middle East, and Africa–will receive $2,500 in credits for Amazon Web Services (AWS), which provides an infrastructure Web services platform in the cloud.

From the semifinalists, six finalists will win an additional $10,000 in AWS credits and a trip to Palo Alto, California, for the final round of judging in November, where they will compete for the grand prize.

The grand prize winner receives $50,000 in cash and $50,000 in AWS credits–along with the chance to gain exposure to venture capital firms that are participating as judges.
